Who We Are

The Young Thinkers' Society (YTS) is a group of unsupervised high-schoolers who have a passionate interest in what is beyond the mundane. Young Thinkers seek answers to the questions of society and the universe. It is our belief that youths today must tackle these issues independently and openly in an environment of peers that encourages rational thought coupled with individual intellectual creativity. Read our manifesto.

The Society seeks bright, intelligent, and interested individuals to contribute to truthful, curious, rational, and open conversation with peers. Completely student-run, the Society is also seeking responsible high-schoolers to help with administrative tasks.

Impetus for YTS

As our world becomes increasingly geared towards instant gratification and constant entertainment, opportunities for teenagers to experience deeper satisfactions such as philosophy, religion, and the arts have become increasingly difficult to find.

Moreover, issues that need to be discussed—including those that stem from ethics, philosophy, and religion—are frequently shunned by teenagers today. Even in places where such issues are supposedly "discussed," such as in the popular world of high school debate or in school-planned activities, the result is often adult-run, inauthentic sophistry or stilted and contrived discussion.

The Young Thinkers' Society seeks to create an open environment where high-schoolers care about discussing important and profound issues. The Society aspires to build an intellectual generation for tomorrow.

Mission

To promote the lifelong intellectual development of young individuals.

Vision

To create an intellectual community of young individuals in which ideas are openly shared and discussed.

Objectives

1.  To stimulate the thought of all high schoolers through school clubs, public speaker forums, and other endeavors.

2.  To act as a catalyst for connections, relationships, and discussion within membership through activities such as the Salon or theyoungthinkers.org.
